One in 10 dementia cases are misdiagnosed. Many people may actually be suffering from liver disease caused by a viral infection, heavy alcohol consumption and obesity, according to an American study by Virginia Commonwealth University. Confusion, forgetfulness, shaking and slurred speech can be caused by a build-up of toxins in the bloodstream. When the liver is unable to clean out these toxins, it impacts brain function.

A study, led by researchers from the University of New Mexico has found alarming high levels of microplastics in the human brain that potentially could be linked to the global rise in Alzheimer’s disease.

Last week the first-ever Alzheimer’s drug lecanemab was approved for use in the UK but rejected by the NHS spending watchdog. This week, the second drug donanemab looks set to follow the same fate, according to Daily Telegraph sources.
