Importance of early support for people living with dementia

is crucial as it can significantly impact the quality of life for both the person living with dementia and their carer.

  1. Maintaining independence: Early support enables people to maintain a higher level of independence and engage in meaningful activities, enhancing a better quality of life.
  2. Support for carers: Dementia can be overwhelming for carers, and early support can provide them with the space and time they need to manage their role as a carer.
  3. Reducing the risk of crisis situations: By engaging with support early, families can avoid the crisis situation that often occurs when symptoms can worsen suddenly or unexpectedly. With early engagement from support providers, there’s time to implement strategies to help reduce loss of confidence and heightened anxiety.
  4. Promoting social engagement: Early outside support helps people living with dementia stay engaged and connected, which can reduce feelings of isolation and depression.
Importance of early support for dementia provided by Tapestry Day Club

“I first came across Tapestry Day Club soon after my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.  After talking it through with my family and the reluctance from Bob wanting to join anything without me, I decided that I could manage on my own.  A year later, things got to crisis, I was exhausted and Bob had become more and more reclusive and disenaged with everything.  I got back in touch with TDC, fortunately they had availability with our local host and he now joins every Thursday.  Thursday is day when I can breathe and have time for myself in the knowledige that Bob is enjoying himself in a safe place.”
