Guest – Nuala
Nuala was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2022. At 79, she lives with her husband and carer, Richard. She remains active and adventurous, but at home, small challenges – like insisting on wearing the same outfit daily, can lead to frustration and conflict.
Since joining Tapestry Day Club, she has found joy and purpose in the small, supportive setting – so much so, that she now attends twice a week. Nuala has thrived in this mixed, small-group setting. Her two hosts offer a range of activities like garden games, lively quizzes, and conversations tailored to Nuala’s interests allowing her to feel independent and valued. She has a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit and enjoys an opportunity to dance.
“It’s a time when I know my mum is in safe hands. Her mind is stimulated and everything is personalised to her, allowing her to bring in her past memories. She looks forward to it every week, even if it’s a surprise that day. It gives her something to talk about, making her life more interesting.”
For Richard, Tapestry Day Club provides much-needed respite. “It’s added to our lives. It’s very good. Transport is arranged both ways, which gives a lovely, clear parcel of time to do something else.”
