Finding out that a loved one is living with early stage dementia is a life changing moment. It often feels like the focus shifts entirely to what is being lost rather than what can still be celebrated. However, staying socially and mentally active is one of the most effective ways to slow the progression of the disease and maintain a high quality of life. At Tapestry Day Club, we believe that a diagnosis should not mean the end of fun. Our sessions are built around the idea of focusing on a guest’s abilities rather than their inabilities. One of the most popular ways we do this is through classic, familiar games like Bagatelle.
Bagatelle is a wonderful activity for people living with early stage dementia. It is a traditional tabletop game that many of our guests remember from their youth, which can spark joyful memories and conversation. Beyond the nostalgia, it offers several practical benefits like hand-eye coordination; cognitive stimulation and social connection.
