Tapestry Day Club understands the profound impact of an early stage dementia diagnosis. While it can feel overwhelming, understanding the symptoms and receiving that diagnosis is the crucial first step to ensuring a higher quality of life. The right support can help people “live better for longer”.
Is Staying Social Truly Important for Early Stage Dementia?
You’ve heard it time and again: stay active, stay social. But when you or a loved one receives an early stage dementia diagnosis, life can suddenly become more complicated. It’s easy to pull away. Anxiety and social isolation are common. However, remaining socially active is more than just a nice idea—it’s a vital form of support.
Isolation can speed up the progression of the disease. Regular social contact and stimulating activities are proven to delay that progress. It’s about focusing on abilities, not inabilities, and giving back confidence.
Take a look at the Alzheimer’s Society advice as to the importance of an early diagnosis.
Finding the right support is essential. But what does “the right support” actually look like? Many traditional community centres can feel large and overwhelming. This can actually increase the anxiety that many people living with dementia already feel. We offer a different kind of dementia day suport. Our tailored service takes place in the safe, intimate, and comforting environment of one of our host’s family homes. The groups are intentionally kept small—no more than six guests at a time. This small setting allows guests to build strong bonds and lasting friendships. Everyone has a life story, a rich ‘tapestry’, to share.
