Making Easter Familiar and Stress-Free

Easter brings changes to routines that can be unsettling for those living with early stage dementia.

Stick to the Routine – Keep activities low-key and serve meals at their usual time to avoid confusion. Monitor rest and sleep, as the clock change can increase fatigue and anxiety.  Stagger visitors so the home environment does not become overwhelming.

Adapted Easter Activities – Enjoy decorating eggs or baking simnel cake as a “reminiscence tool” to evoke happy memories.  Simplify Easter egg hunts by using brightly coloured eggs in easy-to-find spots.

Dementia-Friendly Worship – Look for shorter, relaxed church services that allow families to celebrate together. If staying home, you can watch online or play favourite hymns to maintain the connection.

Create a Quiet Zone – Designate a specific “quiet room” where your loved one can retreat from the noise.
