Around people living with dementia is essential for fostering respect, empathy, and understanding.
It helps to reduces stigma. Dementia is often surrounded by misconceptions and negative stereotypes. Using compassionate language helps to combat stigma and creates a more inclusive environment for people living with dementia.
At Tapestry Day Club, we use compassionate and sensitive language which fosters trust between our guests and hosts. This is crucial as people with dementia may feel vulnerable, anxious and confused.
Our ethos is to promote dignity and respect. Language can be very uplifting and shapes how our hosts interact with their guests. When we choose words that are patient, non-judgmental, and understanding, it can improve our interactions and relationships with those who have dementia.
The families of who we support also benefit from hearing their loved ones spoken about in a positive, affirming way.
