As well as the 90th birthday celebrations laid on by our Mannings Heath host, the family of our guest Louise put on a big party to mark this milestone.
There was amazing authentic Mexican food and Louise’s 15-year-old granddaughter made a passion fruit and mango cake.
Born in Mexico, both Louise’s parents died when she was young. She was brought up in care and learnt enough English at school to visit America.
She met her English husband while working behind the counter at Woolworths in Mexico. He was over there working for a few months. They married and she moved to the UK with him in the 1960s, where her English improved considerably.
Louise and her husband, an engineer, started married life living in a caravan in Essex for six years before moving to Sussex. They went on to have two daughters. After he died, Louise lived on her own for a while but now lives with each daughter in turn on alternate weeks.
She loves word searches, crosswords, cards and crochet and is always up for trying her hand at anything new.
